Alejandro Gutierrez-Li is an Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics at Washington University in St. Louis. His research lies in the areas of labor economics and applied microeconomics, with an emphasis on economics of immigration and entrepreneurship. His recent work has analyzed the role of pre-migration work experience of immigrants in their labor market outcomes in the United States, factors affecting Mexico-U.S. migration, the determinants of the farm labor supply, and the economic opportunities of Hispanics, among others.
In addition, he is in charge of a new research and outreach program related to agricultural labor in the U.S. Professor Gutierrez-Li regularly interacts with stakeholders and reporters and has been quoted by outlets like the Wall Street Journal, NBC News, the National Desk, and the Triangle Business Journal.
